How the practice works

You'll get the same kind of messages a scammer sends. After each one, your anti-scam guide shows you the red flag and explains what's best to do. You choose how to reply and you learn with no risk at all.

• Writes from a new or unknown number
• Pretends to be a family member
• Plays on your emotions: love, guilt or fear
• Rushes you: "urgent", "it has to be today"
• Asks you for a code, a password or money
• Asks you not to tell anyone or check

The 3 golden rules

• Hang up and call the number you already have. If it's really your family, they'll pick up. That one call undoes almost any trick.
• A code or a password is never shared. Never, with anyone. It's like the key to your house. Your bank will never ask you for it.
• No real person rushes you to get your money. The urgency and the "don't tell anyone" are the trap.

Making a mistake in practice costs you nothing: that's what it's for. In real life, when in doubt, stop and check with someone you trust.
